Rio Blanco County will be represented by 12 wrestlers, including the county’s only regional champion, T.J. Shelton, in the Colorado State Wrestling Championship which starts today in the Pepsi Center in Denver. Shelton will be joined by seven other Meeker teammates and Rangely will send four wrestlers to compete in the “Big Show.”

RANGELY I The Rangely Panthers wrestled five dual meets in Meeker last Saturday in the final matches of the regular season and will now compete in the state-qualifying regional tournament this weekend at Grand Junction High School. The Panthers had seven varsity wrestlers and won one of the five duals.

RHS wrestles in Rifle, GJ

RANGELY I Rangely wrestlers Lucas Heinle and Ethan Allred went undefeated in matches last weekend in Rifle and Grand Junction. The Panthers will wrestle five duals in Meeker this Saturday in the final competition before the state-qualifying regional tournament Feb. 15 and 16.

RANGELY I Almost half the the Panther wrestling team did not compete last weekend because of illness but four of the five who did wrestle placed in the top three, including two individual champions.

RANGELY I More than 140 wrestlers from 12 different schools in Colorado and Utah competed in the Panther Invitational last Saturday and the Panthers crowned three champions. The Panthers also hosted a triangular the night before the tournament and defeated the Olathe Pirates by one point but lost to Steamboat Springs by six.

Coombs places sixth at Vernal

RANGELY I The Panther wrestling team opened the 2013 part of the season in Vernal, Utah competing in the 40th annual Tournament of Champions. They came home with one placer.

RHS Panthers wrestle in Utah

RANGELY I The Rangely Panthers wrestling team ended the 2012 portion of the wrestling season with two dual meets in Utah before Christmas break and will cross the state line again when they return in 2013 to wrestle in the Tournament of Champions in Vernal, Utah, starting Jan. 11, 2013.

RANGELY I The Panther wrestling team continues to be short wrestlers due to illness and injuries but seven team members did travel to Kremmling for the annual West Grand High School invitational and two returned with medals.

RHS Panthers place six wrestlers

Rangely junior Lucas Heinle won a gold medal at the Soroco Invitational last Saturday in Oak Creek. Heinle won the 152-pound bracket and he and his team will wrestle in Kremmling this Saturday.

RANGELY I With only half of the 14 varsity weights filled last Saturday in Oak Creek, the Panther wrestling team placed six of its seven varsity wrestlers in the top three, including one champion, and placed fourth as a team in the Soroco Invitational.
