RANGELY I The Panther high school wrestling program will start the 2012-2013 season under a new, yet familiar head coach, as Jeff Heinle takes the helm this season.

Brown places 6th at state

Rangely senior Patrick Brown lost to the eventual state champion in the championship semifinals of the heavyweight division and finished sixth in his final high school tournament.

RANGELY I Five Rangely wrestlers, including three with state experience will compete in the state qualifying regional tournament this weekend and their coach is expecting big things from his small crew.

3 Panthers win tourney

RANGELY I Three Panther wrestlers won the Grand Junction wrestling tournament last Saturday. One finished as a consolation champ and another won a match.

RANGELY I Senior Rangely High School wrestler Patrick Brown remains undefeated for the season at 9-0 and was voted the outstanding wrestler last Friday at the Roosevelt, Utah, duals.

RANGELY I The Rangely High School wrestling team traveled to Grand Junction to compete in the Colorado Mesa University duals and returned with one undefeated wrestler.

Rangely High School was the site for the Panther Invitational wrestling tournament held last Saturday. Wrestlers from Rangely, Meeker, Rifle, New Castle, Parachute, Hotchkiss, Loma, Moffat County, Hayden, Vernal and Roosevelt attended the event.

Barlow wins regional title

Senior Cole Barlow works to turn Brandon Morgan of Nucla in the semifinals at the regional tournament. Barlow was the only champ for the Panthers, winning the 152-bracket.

RANGELY I Panther senior Cole Barlow moved up a spot from last year’s second place finish in the regional wrestling tournament, winning the 152-pound bracket last Saturday in Palisade.

Rangely wrestlers ready for regional tournament

Panther senior Cole Barlow, pictured wrestling in the Panther Invitational earlier this year, is currently ranked No. 2 in the state by On the Mat Rankings, will be the No. 1 seed in this week’s state-qualifying tournament to be held at Palisade High School. Barlow has qualified for the state wrestling tournament twice before.

RANGELY I A dual meet between the Panther wrestling team and 3A Grand Valley was cancelled last week but according to head coach Derek Stolworthy, the team has spent the time training in preparation of the state-qualifying regional tournament this weekend at Palisade High School.

Panthers battle on the mat in Paonia

RANGELY I “Our wrestlers arrived in Paonia ready to battle,” Panther wrestling coach Derek Stolworthy said. The Panthers may have lost some battles but know they are still in the war.
