Dear Editor: Having read the Aug. 22 Herald Times article titled “County has four plans for justice center using old school,” it occurs to me that there is “a rat in the wood pile.”
Residents give input on use of old school
MEEKER I The Meeker Community Center Task Force requested a public meeting with the Rio Blanco County Commissioners on Monday afternoon, and approximately 29 people participated.
County accepts old Meeker school; future use uncertain
MEEKER I The Rio Blanco County commissioners voted unanimously Monday to accept possession of the downtown Meeker property known as the old Meeker elementary school, but they made it clear that the building is not automatically going to be demolished in favor of the new county justice center.
Severance tax dollars an issue
RBC I Rio Blanco County Commissioner Jeff Eskelson raised the issue of unequal distribution of state severance tax funds with U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton on Friday, during Tipton’s visit to the Upper Colorado Environmental Plant Center. Tipton also visited with the commissioners regarding regional policy issues.
Eskelson, Hill win commissioner seats
RBC I Rio Blanco County elected two new county commissioners in the 2012 Republican primary election. Jeff Eskelson defeated incumbent Kai Turner and Jon D. Hill defeated Chris Brasfield to fill the seat vacated by Ken Parsons. The two new commissioners will be seated in January 2013.
Commish: The race is on
RBC I Republican caucuses were held in Meeker, Rangely and Piceance Creek Tuesday. Delegates were chosen and four candidates announced their intentions to run for two Rio Blanco County commissioner seats.
Commissioners grant school districts $200K, one year only
RBC I Both school districts in Rio Blanco County will benefit from a “one-year only” grant given by the county commissioners at their June 13 meeting. It was also the first day on the job for the new county administrator.
