Buford School benefit fly-fish tourney this weekend

The Buford School, located just south of the town of Buford along County Road 17, which turns right off County Road 8 at Lake Avery, will be the benefactor of the 12th annual Buy-Fly Fishing Tournament, set for Saturday and Sunday. Funds raised at the June annual Buford School Fish Fry will be caught this weekend as 12 teams compete for prizes for the biggest fillets and biggest fish. One of the teams will be from Project Healing Waters of Grand Junction, a four-member team of special-needs military veterans.

White River Community fish fry is set June 14 to benefit old Buford School

Covered in snow or shining in the sun, the Buford School was built in 1889 by Buford area homesteaders. It remained a school until 1952. The White River community was given the property and it funds from the annual fish fry have kept the historic structure looking so good.

MEEKER I Members and friends of the White River Community Association have been meeting together for good food, fellowship and neighborly support for the past 45 years with the Buford School in mind.

MEEKER I The White River Community Association is hosting its 10th annual Buy-Fly White Fish Tournament on March 15 and 16, and organizers are seeking teams of interested fisher-folks to join the fun.
