Fish fry…

The weather couldn’t have been much better for the annual Buford School annual fish fry, which was held Saturday at the school, located along County Road 17, about 22 miles east of Meeker. Saturday’s crowd just kept on coming for the two hours of the white fish dinner, and the incredibly vast array of side dishes and desserts showed that the women of the area do know how to throw a great feed.

Annual fish fry at historic Buford School draws hungry crowd

With rain in Meeker and a slight delay with dedication and the cornerstone being laid at the new Pioneers Medical Center, the White River Fish Fry in Buford was a little bit slow in starting at 4 p.m. and running through 6 p.m. Roughly 200 people took part in the fish fry, which is a fundraiser to raise funds for the restoration and upkeep at the Buford School on County Road 17.

MEEKER I The White River Community Association will hold its annual Fish Fry Fundraiser on June 13 at the Buford School on County Road 17.

White River Community fish fry is set June 14 to benefit old Buford School

Covered in snow or shining in the sun, the Buford School was built in 1889 by Buford area homesteaders. It remained a school until 1952. The White River community was given the property and it funds from the annual fish fry have kept the historic structure looking so good.

MEEKER I Members and friends of the White River Community Association have been meeting together for good food, fellowship and neighborly support for the past 45 years with the Buford School in mind.

Youngest team wins Buy/Fly Fishing Tournament

Topping the prize table at the 10th annual White River Community Buy/Fly Fishing Tournament were Orvis Mirage Big Game Fly Reels for the first-place team, which was also the youngest team. Co-sponsored by Sable Mountain Outfitters and the K Bar T Ranch, Meekerites Daylon Nielsen, Dayton Willey, Jake Edinger and Codee Woodward took top honors. Fly boxes with fishing accessories, donated in part by Wyatt’s Sports Center, were also awarded to this team.

MEEKER I The 10th annual White River Community Association Buy/Fly Fishing Tournament brought out six excellent teams who competed for some great prizes and enjoyed good food and community hospitality.
