MEEKER I A 16-year-old female from Meeker was injured in a rollover accident last Sunday and is recovering at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.
According to Colorado State Patrolman Eric Dibenedetto, the teenager was the only person in the vehicle when she “apparently fell asleep,” traveling northbound on Highway 13, approximately 10 miles south of Meeker at mile marker 32.
“The vehicle went off the right side of the road, came back on the road, over-corrected and went off the left side of the highway,” Dibenedetto said by phone.
Dibendetto said the vehicle rolled two times and the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected through the window. According to Dibenedetto, the vehicle rolled two times and landed on its wheels.
The teenager was transported by ambulance to Pioneers Medical Center and then taken to Grand Junction for surgery on her leg and is expected to return home this week.
