Thacker appears in court

MEEKER I Jock Waylon Thacker, 21, who was charged with robbery and theft of Mountain Valley Bank in Meeker last spring, appeared in court Jan. 4 only to have his case continued until June 2013.
Thacker entered Mountain Valley Bank April 12, 2012, wearing a cowboy hat, western shirt, blue jeans and cowboy boots with spurs. According to an affidavit, he gave a note to the teller which read, “Don’t be crazy give me all the cash out of your register.”
Thacker left the bank with more than $1,200. He had the money with him when he was captured. He forded the White River south of City Park.
Thacker was released on a $10,000 bond and allowed to enter a substance abuse treatment program in Baton Rouge, La., last April.
Thacker appeared in court last Monday in a suit and tie, accompanied by his parents, who had driven him to Colorado for the disposition hearing.
Thacker’s public defender, Sarah Steele, asked for the continuance to give her client more time to review the district attorney’s offer and mentioned the difficulty getting Thacker released from the intensive two-year treatment program to appear in court.
Assistant District Attorney Gene Tardy said they did not want to “undo” the treatment Thacker was receiving but objected to the motion for continuance, arguing the case needed to move forward and Thacker either needed to “accept the offer or set a date for trial.”
Judge Daniel Petre allowed the case to be continued until June 7, 2013.
