MEEKER | The recycling location at the end of Third Street in Meeker is officially closed as of Dec. 31, 2019, but the Town of Meeker is continuing to support free recycling for residents through a new contract with Eagle River Waste Services.
Eagle River Waste Services was awarded the recycling bid late last year. Residents who previously dropped off recyclables at the Third Street site will now need to take items to Eagle River Waste Services at 235 CR 15 (Thornburgh/Yellow Jacket turnoff) on Monday-Thursday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment (call manager Fain Richardson at 970-756-8009 to schedule a Saturday drop-off).
Eagle River Waste’s recycling program includes cardboard, plastics, glass, paper, aluminum and metals. Appliances and electronic waste are also accepted for a fee. Appliances are $30 each and e-waste is $0.75 per pound.
Overton Recycling, which had the contract with the town, is in the process of hauling off the remaining recyclables from the Third Street location.
According to Town Administrator Lisa Cook, the town has planned improvements and revitalization of the property and nearby town buildings.

Here’s the good new/bad news of recycling. It’s free with reluctant financial support from city. New location is out of town and not on the way to anything, so more commitment to drop off stuff is needed. New vendor will take plastics and glass, not offered before. To get folks really engaged in hauling their recycling items, more education and more publicity is needed. We will see if this works!
