MEEKER I “What an experience!” Meeker Thunder baseball coach Brian Merrifield said of his team’s play in the Triple Crown World Series in Steamboat Springs last week. “The experience of being around great teams in such a cool setting was worth everything.”

Former Meeker High School graduate Dave King invited the Thunder to play in the Triple Crown World Series and he even helped coach his hometown team in the first game.
“We had the pleasure of meeting Meeker’s very own Dave King, founder of Triple Crown Sports, and had the pleasure of him coaching first base for us in the first game,” Merrifield said.
The competition was tough as the Thunder lost games to teams from Arlington, Texas; Omaha, Neb.; Houston, Texas; Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and Billings, Mont.

The team also enjoyed a tubing adventure down the Yampa River in Steamboat Springs.

“Our athletes gained a ton of respect from all the coaches, and, as I have said before, they just keep toeing the line, no matter what,” coach Merrifield said. “I would like to thank the parents for allowing me once again to spend time and enjoying their athletes for one more season.”
