The late Wayne N. Aspinall, who served as U.S. Representative from Colorado’s 4th District from 1949 to 1972, was the keynote speaker at Rangely College’s 1962 Dedication Ceremony. His speech will again be read at this Saturday’s Colorado Northwestern Community College 50th Anniversary Re-dedication Celebration.
Scott Tipton, current U.S. Representative for the 3rd District of Colorado, has graciously consented to deliver Aspinall’s inspirational speech at the celebration.
In an excerpt from Aspinall’s speech, he states, “The people of Rangely are among those who have recognized the need [for education] and moved to overcome it. I commend your endeavors; I applaud your action.”
Aspinall (1896-1983) from Palisade, Colo., served as member of the U.S. Congress, House of Representatives from 1949-1972, where he specialized in legislation on natural resources. He authored the Colorado River Basin Project Act of 1968 and played a key role in the 1964 Wilderness Act.
Tipton was elected as a Republican to the Colorado House of Representatives for the 58th District in November of 2008. He was then elected to the U.S. House of Representatives
in 2010.
