Chris Staley and Jocelyn Vega presented a $300 check on behalf of Rangely Junior/Senior High School to Shingo Tanaka, our hospital physical therapist, to help his family and others affected by the tsunami, earthquakes and nuclear explosions in Japan. The donations from the Rangely Jr./Sr. High School teachers and staff, RCEA (Rangely Community Education Assoc.), high school athletics and the Jerry Hayes Memorial fund will go to the Red Cross for aid to those in need. Although the catastrophic events did not directly affect Tanaka’s family, they have been affected by higher costs for electricity (20 percent), higher sales tax (from 5 to 10 percent), and their property taxes and income taxes are going up significantly. In addition to the already bad economy it will only get harder, especially with typhoon season coming up. The Rangely community wanted to show solidarity with Tanaka and to help the victims of the tragic events in Japan.
