RANGELY I The 2013 Colorado Community College System’s Rising Star recognition ceremony and honorary luncheon recognized two Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) students April 9 at Front Range Community College.
This annual awards luncheon is designed to recognize the outstanding contributions of students across the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) to college activities and to community service.
The CNCC Rising Star recipients were selected from the Rangely and Craig campuses.
Clay Crozier from the Rangely campus and Zoe Sowers from the Craig campus appeared on the Rising Star recognition ceremony program. Sowers was unable to attend the luncheon due to a winter storm that stopped her from traveling to Denver.
Crozier is currently pursuing his associate of applied science degree in equine studies and management. He is a student-athlete with the CNCC rodeo team, serves on the CNCC Rangely Campus Student Government, as vice president of the Equine Club and is a resident assistant with student life, and is also actively involved with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their community service activities. After graduating from CNCC, Clay plans to attend Brigham Young University-Idaho.
Sowers is student government president and the Phi Theta Kappa president on the CNCC Craig campus. She is on the school safety committee and the quality assurance committee, working with staff and faculty. She is a talented musician, singer/songwriter and dancer, and a member of the Community Choir of Craig. She likes to camp and spend time with her close-knit family when she is not busy with her other endeavors. She plans to transfer to the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she hopes to pursue a doctoral degree in psychology.
Each of the 13 CCCS community colleges selected two student recipients who exemplify the best in service and leadership.
