RANGELY — This past weekend Rifle was the site of the sectional competition of the statewide Denver Nuggets Skills Challenge.
Each contestant competes in a passing, dribbling and shooting competition and accumulates points for their performance in each event. The winners are crowned based on the highest cumulative point total.
Of the eight participants who qualified for this event via the local competition, Katelyn Brown (girls 7-8-year-old division) and Holly Lepro (girls 13-14-year-old division) finished in first place and are now eligible to travel to the Pepsi Center in Denver March 16 to compete in the finals prior to the Denver Nuggets vs. Seattle Supersonics NBA game.
They also received four tickets for the game following the competition.
The other local champions that competed in Rifle were Marshall Richens (boys 7-8-year-old division), Kaulan Brady (boys 9-10-year-old division) and Cameron Enterline (boys 11-12-year-old division).
Local champions who were unable to compete in sectionals were Lindzey Thacker, Allison Glass and Ethan Peacock. Congratulations to Holly and Katelyn and good luck at the finals.
