MEEKER I Six Meeker High School wrestlers traveled to Pueblo last weekend to compete in the freshman/sophomore state tournament, and two returned as state placers.
“The kids had a good time,” coach Joe Gutierrez said of the three freshmen and three sophomores who made the trip.
Sophomore Justin Hardy finished third and his classmate Collin Cochran placed sixth.
Sophomore Ethan Overton and freshman JR Crawford were both one match away from placing. Freshman Logan Piper won a match but did not place and freshman Cody Pfau was eliminated after two matches.
“Last year we brought some kids over and didn’t place any,” Gutierrez said. “We had some success this year and hopefully we can build on that and keep getting better.”
