MEEKER I This past weekend’s lightning burst resulted in 34 wildfires in Northwest Colorado, but only two of those blazes are uncontained as of late Tuesday and wildland fire crews and engines are working towards wrapping them up.
Of the five fires reported Monday, the Deep Channel Fire remains uncontained at 14 acres. It is located about 23 miles northwest of Meeker on BLM land with roughly three acres on private land.
Assigned to this incident is the Colorado Rifle Juniper Valley crew, one Bureau of Land Management squad, one Moffat County Sheriff’s engine and one BLM engine.
The Long Fire, which started Sunday, is 87 acres and 50 percent contained. The Colorado Canyon City Juniper Valley crew and one BLM engine from Grand Junction are working this blaze and making good progress.
No injuries have been reported and no structures are threatened.
Haze in the atmosphere appears to be drift smoke from the numerous large wildland fires occurring in states west and north of Colorado.
