MEEKER I The Bureau of Land Management will be evaluating the use of unmanned aircraft to assist with natural resource monitoring west of Meeker next week.
Unmanned aircraft will be used to help monitor raptor nests, prairie dog colonies, rare plants, range health and pipeline rehabilitation at various locations throughout the White River Field Office in Rio Blanco County.
“This is an exciting new technology, and we are working with the BLM National Operations Center in Denver to evaluate the effectiveness of using unmanned aircraft to monitor natural resources,” said Kent Walter, the field manager for the White River Field Office in Meeker.
“If you are visiting BLM lands within the White River Field Office next week, you might see one of our crews or aircraft at work,” Walter said.
