Thanks to all who helped with or participated in the harvesting of the 2012 Capitol Christmas Tree. Many from out of town and some new to the area were surprised by the turnout, but not me. I know it doesn’t take much to get people excited about celebrating the great outdoors in Rio Blanco County.
A gift from the White River National Forest to the people of the United States is a great reason to celebrate. We know how to celebrate our great outdoors in Rio Blanco County because there is so much of to celebrate and in so many different ways.
Rio Blanco County is 3,228 square miles and more than 70 percent of it is public land, for all the people to enjoy.
Special thanks to my friend Kelly Sheridan for taking me up in his airplane to get pictures of the tree coming down the Flattops Scenic Byway. It reminded me just how big and beautiful this place we live in is and sent my appreciation for this area as high as the 10,000-plus feet we were flying at.
It is my hope that a few people who read about or saw some of the news coverage of the event, will bring their families to see the millions of other trees we have here, and maybe even decide Rio Blanco County is a great place to live and grow up.
Regarding the election, I’m with RBC administrator Kimberly Bullen, who said Wednesday morning, “Now it’s time to get to work.”
