RBC | A Multi Mission Aircraft surveying the Himes Peak Fire on Sunday estimated it at 112 acres. Firefighters have contained 85 percent of the perimeter and have plumbed it with hose to facilitate “mop up.” Over the next few days, they will cool hot spots and look for places where fire has crossed the control line. They will also begin rehabilitation to minimize the fire’s impacts on the landscape.
The Big Fish drainage will remain closed until the burned area has cooled sufficiently to reduce its threat to the public and ensure that no residual fuels reignite.
This will be the final update on the Himes Peak Fire. For more information on the area closure, please contact the Blanco Ranger District at (970)878-4039, and follow the incident on Inciweb at: Inciweb.
Closures: Himes Peak Campground and the Big Fish drainage will remain closed until further notice. Big Fish Trail 1819, Himes Peak Trail 1877 and Boulder Lake Trail 2262 are closed.
