RBC I One man was killed and another injured in a single-vehicle crash June 10 in rural Rio Blanco County, about 20 miles east of Rangely.
The victim, Brian Dick, 22, from Vernal, Utah, was a passenger in the Chevrolet pickup. Dick was partially ejected out the passenger-side, front-door window. He suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
The driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Corey Alexander, also of Vernal, was transported to Rangely District Hospital with moderate injuries.
The accident occurred at about 8:50 a.m. The pickup driven by Alexander was headed westbound on Highway 64 and was traveling on a downhill grade approaching a sweeping curve to the left, according to the Colorado State Patrol report.
The truck traveled off the right side of the road in the curve, collided with a delineator post, and was then steered back to the left by Alexander. The truck traveled off the left side of the road, down a steep embankment, and rolled one-half time, coming to rest on its roof facing northeast.
During the crash, Alexander was partially ejected through the rear window of the truck and was extricated by fire and ambulance crews.
The incident is under investigation.
