On Nov. 11 Barone Middle School and the Meeker Chamber collaborated to host the annual VFW lunch and assembly. Student council interviewed VFW patriots and helped them present the importance of what the VFW does for our community. The students thanked the VFW for all they do and explained how they want to give back. At the end of the month, they will be hosting a Middle School dance and all of the proceeds will be donated to the VFW post 5843. The student council then reflected on all five of the branches of the military. They recognized community members that were part of each branch. The choir sang “America the Beautiful”. Following the choir, Martha Cole explained, “The Voice of Democracy and Patriots pen”. Ainsley Selle read her eighth grade competition essay on this topic. David Cole and John Aitken from the VFW shared flag etiquette with the students as they wrapped up the assembly and opened up for question/answer sessions.
