MEEKER I The middle school volleyball teams from Meeker and Rangely played in Rangely Saturday for exciting matches. Both teams have shown a great deal of growth throughout the season as they demonstrated hard fought volleys and some exciting plays at the net. The seventh grade A and B games were both won by Meeker behind solid serving from Avery Watt, Macey Collins and Kascia Cochran. The girls improved their serving a great deal over the season, serving 85 percent the last match. The seventh grade B teams are done, finishing with a 4-2 record. The A teams will finish their season with a tournament this weekend. The eighth grade games were both won by Rangely who showed tremendous team work and solid play at the lead by Katie Allred. In the eighth grade A game, Rangely came out strong winning the first game handily over a seemingly nervous Meeker team. Meeker settled in and battled back to take an early lead in game two before Rangely tied the score at 16-16. Rangely gathered momentum after a big block and put the match away with a game two win. Rangely and Meeker not only had a great deal more attack and blocking attempts but also showed solid defense with great passing by several players.
The athletes from both teams worked hard all season and the level of play increased tremendously from start to finish. The competition proved to be a sneak preview of years to come for Rangely and Meeker and judging from the reviews, it will be a great show.
