RBC — The first snow survey of winter on the Upper White River Watershed was completed on Jan. 29. The White River snow pack water equivalent (snow moisture) is presently 23 percent above last year at this time. Basin wide, the White River snow pack is 15 percent above the 30-year average snow moisture for this point of the winter. The last time the area had this much snow moisture for January was in 1997. If the area continues to receive normal storms for the remainder of the winter, the basin would end up at or above normal.
Lenny Lang of the Natural Resources Conservation Service and volunteer Alvin Jones conducted the snow survey last week.
