White unsure of benefits of stimulus bill in county

RBC — President Obama was in Denver on Tuesday to sign the $787 billion federal stimulus bill.
Sen. Al White, R-Hayden, for one, has a wait-and-see attitude on how much the stimulus package will actually benefit northwest Colorado.
“Honestly, I am not even looking at (the stimulus package),” White told members of the Meeker and Rangely school boards earlier this month. “We’re keeping our heads down and trying to balance our budget based on what we anticipate our revenues will be and what our other resources are. We can’t address it in any other fashion.”
White serves on the Joint Budget Committee.
“First of all, we don’t know what strings will be attached,” White said. “So, it’s irresponsible for us to anticipate that those monies will be available for any specific purpose. If (the stimulus) does enable us to maintain some programs here and there, that’s a benefit. But certainly not one we count on or plan for.”
