MEEKER — More than 1,200 teams competed in the fifth annual White River Trailer Roping event, sponsored by the Last Chance Team Roping on Aug. 23 and 24.
“This has been the biggest event since the trailer roping started in 2003, growing each and every year,” said Kristy Cordova. “The help of the sponsors brought some very nice prizes for the ropers to compete for.” Winning this year’s trailer was Brett Watson of Meeker.
“He makes the third local team roper out of five given away to win the trailer,” Cordova said.
There were also two custom Double J Saddles given away Aug. 24 to the high point winners. The saddles went to Dustin Flohr of Rifle and Hank Bounds from Loma. There was also a saddle given away on Aug. 23 that went to Raye Arnold from Meeker.
“Then, of course, there were many other winners taking home quite a bit of cash in all the ropings,” Cordova said. “We do want to thank all the participants that keep coming back to support this awesome event. And thank you, sponsors. You helped to keep the cost down for the participants and make a wonderful event keep coming back to the town of Meeker.”
The sponsors were: Berry Brothers, Enterprise, Marvine Ranch, Northwest Auto, Watt’s Ranch Market, First National Bank of the Rockies, White River Electric Association, Meeker General Mercantile, Stage Stop Meat Market, Samuelson’s True Value, White River Energy, Belland Builders Inc., Meeker Realty LLC, McGuire Auto Parts, Gary’s Steakhouse, White River Roping Productions, Micro Plastics of Rifle, and Rifle Truck and Trailer. The Meeker Lions Club worked the concession stand.
