MEEKER — Ten athletes from the Meeker track teams qualified for the state meet in Pueblo last weekend.
Johnny Wix competed first for the Cowboys in the discus on Friday morning. He threw 135-9, not his best throw but good enough under the pressure to place third.
The men’s 4×800 relay of Terrence Casias, Sam Love, Seth Boesch and Brock Campbell ran their best time ever of 8:52.4, finishing 13th overall.
Marki Cook made it to the finals in the 100-meter and in the finals ran her fastest time of 12.64 to place sixth. Cook ran a 27.54, one of her fastest 200’s but ended up 11th out of the finals.
The girls 4×200 team of Cook, Kelsey Rundberg, Timbre Shriver and Janae Kindall were near or in the lead in its preliminary heat when it dropped the baton. They did come back later in the afternoon and ran a great 4×100 relay to make it to Saturday. In the finals they botched one hand-off and it was enough to end them up in seventh place. Janae Kindall jumped to a personal record in the long jump and almost made finals.
Johnny Wix failed to get off a strong throw in the shot put prelims and just missed making finals, ending up in 10th place. He is the only sophomore in the top 10, however. Brock Campbell was the last Cowboy to compete and ran an excellent 800-meter in 2:06.71 to place seventh. Congratulations to all the track kids on a great year.
