MEEKER I All four male runners on Meeker’s cross country team recorded their best times of the season last Friday in Grand Junction.
Rangely freshman William Scoggins was again the first Cowboy to cross the line, finishing the 3.1-mile course in under 20 minutes for a second time this season. Scoggins’ time was 19:42, his best so far this season.
“William really pushed his pace in the first mile and stayed with a pack to run with,” head coach Kris Casey said. “He had a strong finish and his best race so far.”
Freshman Lathrop Hughes and sophomore Ean Barrow pushed each other the entire race, according to Casey, with Hughes finishing in 20:27 and Barrow seven seconds behind. Freshman Alex Smith also finished with a personal best of 22:19.
“The boys had awesome races, it was a lot of fun to watch,” Casey said. “It was great to see all of the boys improve so much. They were all very excited.”
Meeker’s girls did not run as well as they have in the past.
“The girls did not have their best meet,” Casey said. “Both Erica (Roybal) and Perye (Walter) ran much slower than they are capable and Savannah (Johnson) did not run, due to being sick.”
“We were extremely proud of their runs as they were,” Casey said.
Meeker will run in Craig on Saturday.
