MEEKER I The Meeker Cowboys cross country team has quietly been moving up the 2A division ranks and is now considered a top 10 team under the strong running of sophomore Jake Boesch and junior Lathrop Hughes.
Running in the most powerful region in 2A, Boesch ran the sixth-fastest time in 2A this year with strong finishes in a number of races and is looking forward to the regional championships in Delta. Junior Lathrop Hughes has continued to improve in his third year of running cross country and currently has the 28th fastest time in 2A. Sophomore Bailey Mantle and dual sport athlete Willis Begaye, sophomore, help round out this up and coming team in 2A cross country.
The Cowboys competed at the Chris Severy Memorial Hill Climb this past weekend and Boesch led the way with a time of 20 minutes .08 seconds to finish in 21st place. Hughes finished in 53rd place in a time of 21:26 on the challenging course. Coming off an injury, Mantle raced a solid time of 28:24. The Cowboys will be in Rifle next.
