Obituary: Charles Devereaux, Aug. 9, 1926 ~ July 24, 2011
Charles Frank Devereaux, a lifelong resident of Meeker, died on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at the Walbridge Wing after a lengthy illness. He was 84.
Letter to the Editor: Keep the name of the pageant the same
Dear Editor: It was interesting to me that Dolly Viscardi, in her column a couple of weeks ago, used my Uncle Roy (LaRoy) Purdy to reinforce an argument for changing the name of the Meeker Massacre Pageant to the Meeker Pageant. Needless to say, I knew Roy Purdy very well.
Predator discussions scheduled in Meeker
MEEKER I Following a well-attended meeting in Meeker last month, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will again offer the public an opportunity to learn about mule deer management and the White River mule deer herd, including a discussion of the effectiveness of predator management as a way to boost deer numbers.

MEEKER I Ten names are on the ballot to be mailed to all members of the Meeker Chamber of Commerce this month, as the organization holds an election to seat five new board members.
Boom coming, eventually
MEEKER I “I’ve believed we were going to see the (oil shale) boom next Wednesday for the past 55 years.” After more than a half century, Frank Cooley is just as certain the boom is coming as ever.

Speaker coming to RBC Fair
RBC | A speaker from the National Beef Speakers Bureau will visit the Rio Blanco County Fair this year. Jo Stanko from Steamboat Springs will be speaking from 9-9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 6.
