Former BMS teacher to cross the Pacific
It was in 2006 that math teacher Rory Wilson began to build a boat that was strong enough to drag around, shallow and light enough to get into places other boats cannot, and strong enough to run with an ocean storm.

Meeker tracksters advance to state competition
MEEKER I The Meeker High School Track and Field team competed at the new and improved Stoker Stadium in Grand Junction last Thursday and Friday at the Western Slope League Meet. Warm weather and stiff competition in the girl’s field led to numerous new league records.

Vadonna Winterholter is amazing to watch as she forms our students into musically talented kids. I have observed her help children who don’t seem to have musical talent into kids who know what it’s all about.
Masonic Lodge awards $6,000 in scholarships
MEEKER I At the annual awards assembly Tuesday, May 8, at Meeker High School, members of the local Masonic Lodge awarded $6,000 in scholarship grants to the following outstanding 2012 graduates: Trey Morris, Holly Knezovich, Andrea Cook, Katherine Morgan, Jordan Haney, Aubrey Walsh, Randia Rule and Adrienne Wix.
Panthers’ season ends at regional tournament
RANGELY I The Rangely Panther baseball team’s season came to an end with a loss to Resurrection Christian in the first round of the regional tournament last week but head coach Paul Fortunato is proud of his team’s season and excited for next year.
Fellows, Watt defend title
MEEKER I One of the challenges of the annual two-man golf scramble at the Meeker Golf Course is teams have to play 27 holes but defending champs Matt Fellows and J.C. Watt saved their their best round for the last nine holes and won the title again this year.

A truck was towed to Northwest Auto after a 1,000 pound drill head fell off a flatbed traveling east on Highway 64 and went completely through the pictured truck, owned by Lufkin Industries and driven by Justin Larson 28, of Vernal, Utah.
