Stock dog handling demonstrations, using ducks, will be presented by Chris Jobe at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the sheepdog trials, part of the schedule of events at the Meeker Classic, which began Wednesday and will run through Sunday at Ute Park. The ducks were raised by Ellen Nieslanik, outgoing director of the sheepdog trials. Here, her dog Pete “herded” the ducks.
As for the competition, preliminary dog runs will continue through Friday, with the semifinal eliminations on Saturday and the final round on Sunday. There will be plenty of entertainment throughout the trials, with an art reception tonight at the Wilber Barn, and a free outdoor concert Saturday on the courthouse lawn, in addition to art demonstrations.
