MEEKER I It is springtime and everyone is looking forward to the end of school. But once school has been out for a few weeks the students have done everything they’ve been wanting to do all school year and start crying “I’m bored!”
The Meeker Elementary Library would like to help parents out this summer. We know your children love to read, so we are having a Scholastic buy one, get one free book fair on Thursday, April 19 at the old elementary school gym at 455 Main St., from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Everyone in the community is welcome — young, old and in-between. There will be a great variety of books including selections of Spanish language books, cookbooks, preschool through eighth grade level reading books and much more.
The price range will be from $1 to $24. Choose two books and the lowest-priced one will be free. Students love this fair and they learn quickly how to get the most for their money.
This year the PTO basket raffle fundraiser will be held in conjunction with the book fair. This is the fourth year that the PTO has had the basket raffle. The funds raised the PTO raffle are used for special opportunities that we may not be able to fund otherwise. This year the PTO sponsored field trips to the portable earth dome and the portable planetarium.
The basket themes include camping, summer fun, gardening, candy, family movie night and chocolate/baking and arts and crafts. Raffle tickets are one for $1, or six for $5. Baskets will be on sale at the book fair and at the Spring Fling dance.
Winners of the baskets will be drawn at the dance.
