BMS tracksters enjoy great last day in Steamboat

T.J. Shelton smiles as he crosses the finish line.
“All in all, it was a great day for Meeker track!” middle school track coach Marty Casey said of the final meet in Steamboat Saturday.
The seventh and eighth graders from Meeker had a successful day, setting many personal records as well as four new school records.
Official results have not arrived yet, but unofficially Halle Ahrens broke the seventh grade girls 100-meter dash record, and anchored the record-breaking 400-meter relay team with Kenzie Burke, Peyton Burke and Reese Pertile.
The seventh grade girls were on a roll as they also broke the 800-meter relay record with the team of Pertile, Loran Casias, Peyton Burke and Halle Ahrens.
The eighth grade boys also stepped up to the challenge and the 800 medley team of Dillon Frantz, T.J. Shelton, Devon Pontine and the incredible 400 finisher Sam Nieslanik broke the school record. The eighth grade boys also won the 400 meter relay, and the seventh grade boys came in second.
Individually, Sam Nieslanik won the triple jump with a jump of 34-7, and placed in the long jump with 15-5.5. Noah Overton won the shot put with 44-5.5.
Halle Ahrens won the meet with her record breaking time in the 100-meter dash as well as winning the 100-meter hurdles. Sheridan Harvey finished second in the 100-meter dash and Clay Anderson ran an impressive 6:22 mile. The eighth grade boys swept the 100 dash event with T.J. Shelton, Dylan Frantz, and Devon Pontine coming across the line first second and third. Cole Brown had an outstanding high jump of 4-10 for the seventh grade boys and Marshall Pool ran a 5:22 1600-meter race.
The open 400-meter dash is always an exciting race. Maggie Phelan ran a 1:09 for the seventh grade girls, and Sam Lange ran a 1:08 in the eighth grade boys’ division.
This meet concluded the season for the young tracksters.
The athletes from Barone Middle School enjoyed a fun, successful year of track and had four meets in the sun. Congratulations to each of the participants for their efforts, and thanks to the volunteers that helped in practice and supported the kids at the meets.
