MEEKER I A business workshop is planned in Meeker on Wednesday dealing with business incentives and what role government and business can play in determining our competitiveness.
“Please share this information with your business boards and anyone else who may be interested,” said Katelin Cook, Rio Blanco County’s economic development coordinator. “I know this topic is on our radar, and we have some great presenters volunteering their time.”
“Business Attraction and Expansion Incentives: What should we do to be competitive” will take place on Wednesday, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Freeman E. Fairfield Center, 200 Main St., Meeker.

Guest speakers and their topics include:
Sam Bailey of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, who will speak about: current trends at the state level, resources the state can offer and what incentives rural communities can offer to be competitive.
Kelly Flenniken of the Grand Junction Economic Partnership, who will speak about: incentives in Mesa County – what is working and what isn’t; and how to combine economic development goals with elected officials’ interests concerning incentives.
Kjersti Litzelman of The Enterprise Zone, who will speak about: Overview of the program; how businesses can take advantage of these tax credits; and how can we help educate business/government of the program.
The program will be followed by a question and answer session.
