RANGELY — Colorado Northwestern Community College is pleased to announce the addition of Tom Cassera to the CNCC staff. As the new head coach for baseball and golf, Cassera will play a dual role at the college. He will be carrying on the baseball coaching role and also creating a new golf program, which he will coach this fall.
Cassera comes to Rangely from his hometown of Damascus, Md., where he has been a physical education/health teacher (K-12) for 26 years. His coaching experience includes middle school basketball, golf and wrestling; high school head coach for baseball, wrestling and golf (15 years); and college head baseball coach at Montgomery College in Germantown, Md. (NJCAA).
Many coaching accomplishments can be attributed to Cassera beginning with the Maryland State College baseball coach of the year 2002/2004; Region XX coach of the year 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004; finished fourth in the NJCAA/Div. III World Series in 2002 and finished second in the NJCAA/Div. III World Series in 2004.
Since moving to Colorado, Cassera has been busy developing the Western Slope Golden Eagles baseball/softball competitive program in Grand Junction. He has two daughters: Hannah, an 18-year-old sophomore at Mesa State College, and Haley, a 13-year-old eighth-grader at Redlands Middle School in Grand Junction.
“I am thoroughly ecstatic to be here in Rangely, and I can’t stop thinking about all the things I can bring to this athletic program,” Cassera said. He said that he couldn’t wait to get started and that it was difficult knowing he still has a month to get ready before he can really dive in and get to work.
He wants to get the word out there that CNCC will have a new golf program beginning on the Rangely campus this fall. If you are interested in either baseball or golf at CNCC, contact Tom Cassera at (970) 675-2261.
