“We want to thank all the people who played, our sponsors and the Meeker Golf Course for letting us put on this event,” Phelan said.
More than 40 golfers took part in the 18-hole scramble format, which features some interesting twists, like using a bat to tee-off No. 1, a kid’s driver on No. 3 and a hockey stick to putt on No. 7.
Cowboy assistant coach Andy Coryell teamed up with his father- and brother-in law (Jim and Eben Abshire), along with Matt Dupire to win the tournament with a five-under-par 63, two shots ahead of Meeker Superintendent of Schools Chris Selle, Barone Middle School Principal Jim Hanks and teacher Willy Theos.
“It was a fun time with family and friends,” Coach Phelan said.
The Cowboys started practice after the first day of school and will open the season in Rye this year.
“We are excited about our numbers; we are on top of 40 out,” Coach Phelan said. “We have a few new faces and a big freshman class.”
