State road crews working on a rock scaling project on Colorado Highway 64 at milepoint 26 closed the highway to traffic the evening of July 20 and during the day on July 21 due to concerns about the stability of a large slab of rock (split is visible above). During the closure, motorists were encouraged to utilize alternate routes Colorado Highway 13 or Colorado Highway 139, known as Douglas Pass.
