Lady Panthers beat Rams

Rangely junior Brittany Babineaux takes a jump shot over a Soroco Ram defender in a game the lady Panthers won 69-43, with Babineaux leading all scorers with 21 points.
RANGELY I The Rangely girls’ basketball team suffered the same fate as the boys, losing to the Little Snake River Rattlers 26-43 Thursday last. They came back, however, to pound the Soroco Rams 69-43 the following night on their home court.
The lady Panthers led 6-5 after the first quarter but were outscored 16-8 in the second to trail by 10 at halftime. Rangely was only able to make two free throws in the third quarter, while the Rattlers countered with 16. Rangely was able to score 10 in the final quarter but the Rattlers put 11 more on the scoreboard to win the game.
Brittany Babineaux and Quincey Thacker both scored nine against the Rattlers and senior Haeley Enterline added four. Shelby Neiberger and Holli Lepro each added two in the game.
The lady Panthers really turned things around against the Rams Friday, jumping out to a 23-6 lead after the first quarter, led by Babineaux and Enterline each scoring six in the first quarter. The Rams didn’t give up, outscoring the Panthers 22-10 in the second period to pull within five at halftime.
Rangely scored 16 in the third and extended their led to 14 going into the final period of play where the lady Panthers scored 20 to put the game away.
Babineaux led all scorers with 21 points and Thacker scored 20. Enterline also finished in double figures with 12.
The lady Panthers will travel to Kremmling Friday to take on the West Grand Mustangs and host Rio Blanco County rival Meeker Saturday afternoon, with games starting at 1 p.m.

  • Mormon crickets have hatched near Rangely. They were all sighted on BLM land north of Hwy. 64 near the junction of CR 96 and CR 1, down a dirt road near the Moffat County line. The picture shown was taken yesterday by Mary Meinen from Rangely. She says the crickets are about the size of a ladybug (less than 1/2”). Some of them are actually yellow in color but most of them are darker. They are milling around and getting ready to start moving soon. Note: Photo is not to scale.
Rio Blanco County and the White River and Douglas Creek Conservation Districts are still asking for your help to identify additional hatch-outs of crickets so that control efforts can be put in place. The success of the program will highly depend upon local landowners and the public helping to locate crickets as soon as they hatch.
