Marki, Sydney Cook earn league basketball honors

MEEKER — Honors continue to come in for the Lady Cowboys’ basketball team.
Senior Marki Cook was named the league’s most valuable player, while fellow senior Sydney Cook received the sportsmanship award. Another senior, Janae Kindall, was named to the all-league first team, along with Sydney Cook.
“I think it’s really neat and so deserving of a great bunch of seniors,” said Coach Hallie Blunt, who guided the Lady Cowboys to a fourth-place finish at the state tournament. “She (Marki Cook) was the top votegetter, so it was a pretty big deal. That’s the first time in the eight seasons that I’ve been coach that we’ve had the league MVP.”
Senior Megan Ridings and junior Stacey Fitzgibbons received all-league honorable mention.
The awards were announced at the team’s end-of-season banquet April 6.
“The parents did such a great job with the banquet,” Blunt said. “It was so neat.”
Players received T-shirts and award patches from the state tournament, thanks to donations from attorney Trina Zagar Brown, The Bakery and Keith and Cindy Fitzgibbons, Blunt noted.
Blunt will be one of the coaches in the all-state tournament in June, and Marki Cook will be one of the all-state players.
Kindall will participate in the all-state volleyball game.
