The Meeker Mustangs (fifth and sixth grade) battled it out in a close game with Basalt on a very rainy Saturday afternoon. Meeker’s Xavier LeBlanc scored on the opening drive and the Mustangs were able to sustain the lead until the last minute, when Basalt tied it up. A turnover in the last 30 seconds, in Meeker territory, allowed Basalt to seal the win. Final score was 31-25. Scoring for Meeker were Xavier LeBlanc, Diego Robles and Clay Randall. Mustangs play again Saturday in Parachute. The third-fourth grade boys lost 19-0 against a speedy Basalt team. Coaches did see “the light go on” in several of the young lads confirming that hard work and practice do pay off. Practice this week will focus on the fundamentals of blocking, ball handling and paying attention to running routes.
