MEEKER I Homecoming week is here for the Meeker volleyball team, bringing an overall record of 8-3, and a league record of 3-0 to the fun-filled week.
The lady Cowboys look to improve on their undefeated league record against Hotchkiss Friday night and Plateau Valley Saturday. The team was able to beat both teams in an earlier match but this time counts for the league standings increasing the sense of urgency. The homecoming enthusiasm brings added rewards to the match.
The team is playing well after an exciting win over North Park on Saturday.
“We played a scrappy North Park team Saturday that has been competing well against all the top teams in the league,” coach Atwood said. She wanted her team “to put the ball away early and quickly to keep the game total less than five.” The team did just that with outstanding ball distribution, getting multiple hitters involved. The lady Cowboys fell to North Park in game one, seeming to be getting warmed up after the long bus ride to Walden. The girls rallied back to win the next three games and finish the match, 25-17, 25-23 and 25-23.
The homecoming matches are scheduled for 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday following the parade and pep assembly on the courthouse lawn. Come out and support the Meeker volleyball team as they work to maintain their undefeated league record and continue a solid season.
