MEEKER I It was a beautiful day in Meeker last Saturday and a great day for the Meeker ladies’ golf club to host the annual Ladies Dearfly tournament. Golfers from Meeker, Rangely, Craig, Glenwood Springs and Battlement Mesa formed 18, two-woman teams, then divided into two flights for the 18-hole scramble format tournament.
Sherry Rubin and her daughter Amanda Back were the best golfers on the Meeker Golf Course, winning the first flight with a gross score of 69. Rubin used to live in Meeker and Amanda is married to Meeker graduate Jason Back, the golf pro at Yampa Valley Golf Course in Craig.
“They donated all their prize money to the Meeker Junior Golf program,” Debbie Cook said of the winners.
Meeker’s Patty Edwards and her sister Ellen Beaudreaux of Rangely finished second in the first flight, with a gross score three shots behind the champions.
Amanda Back’s mother-in-law Peggy and Shawn Luce finished with the best net score (54) in the first flight giving Deb Ericksen and Erin Galbreath of Glenwood Springs second with a net score of 60.
Julie Gortsema and Michelle David, also of Glenwood Springs, had the best gross score (79) in the second flight. Meeker’s Judy Eskelson and Sue Sprod finished second with a gross score of 84.
Annette Franta and Kristi Shelton were the third team from Glenwood Springs to win prizes, with the best net score (60) in the second flight. Rangely’s Cori and Trilby Elam finished second with a net score of 62.
The Meeker ladies’ club would like to thank Rio Blanco County Abstract, Watts Ranch Market and Stagestop Deli for sponsoring the tournament.
Spins and Skins, which combines golfing and roping, will be played this Saturday.
