AARP Driver’s Safety scheduled for Mar. 17
MEEKER — The AARP Driver’s Safety program will be held March 17-18 from 1-5 p.m. at the Senior Center in the Fairfield Center.
The program consists of eight hours classroom instruction and discussion (no driving, no tests) for motorists 50 and over.
A small fee is charged. Those completing the course will qualify for a discount on their auto insurance.

Concert cancelled
RANGELY — The Rangely Arts Council apologizes to the Rangely community for the cancellation of the Bond concert scheduled for Feb. 14. A conflict with high school activities arose last week. The concerts will continue again in March and we look forward to serving you.
Winter games this Saturday
MEEKER — The ERBM Recreation and Park District will present the 2008 Meeker Winter Games Saturday, Feb. 23. All events are free. At 9:30 a.m. there will be a field hockey tournament (equipment provided) on the softball field in Paintbrush Park followed at 11:30 a.m. by the Cardboard Derby on the sledding hill and a free hot lunch in the upper parking lot. From there at noon a Geo Cache Adventure will begin. The Artisan Show and Cookie Bake-off will be from 2-4 p.m. in the Meeker Recreation Center. In the pool, aquatic games for 6-14 year olds are from 3-4:30 p.m. followed by aqua volleyball and aqua frisbee for players 16 and over. MEEKER — The Town of Meeker is accepting nominations for candidates to fill the office of mayor and trustee. The office of mayor is a two-year term, the three trustee seats are four-year terms. education class
MEEKER — Learn about gun safety, hunter responsibility, wildlife management, outdoor survival and wildlife identification by enrolling in a hunter education class. The class is offered March 8-9 from 8 a.m. until noon and from 1-5 p.m. at Kilowatt Korner at the corner of Sixth and Market streets. The class will be held at the shooting range at 1 p.m March 9.

MEEKER — Colorado Northwestern Community College and the Smoking Pow Wow Committee are sponsoring a community education seminar on Native American life: past, present and future, on Saturday, March 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Register now for this interesting opportunity to learn more about the lives of Native Americans from Mary Lee Longhair as she shares insights about their ceremonies, customs and beliefs. Foot clinic set for Feb. 26
MEEKER — Pioneers Medical Center Home Health will be offering its monthly foot clinic Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 10-11 a.m. at the Pines Apartments at 875 Water St. A registered nurse and a certified nurse assistant will trim toenails, assess circulation, give skin care and check blood pressures. Persons found to have circulatory or foot problems will be referred to a physician. Please call 878-9265 to schedule an appointment.

RANGELY — Ronnie and Cindy Halcomb of Rangely are this week’s “home of” honorees. Ronnie’s family moved to Rangely in 1961. Cindy has lived here since 1979. The couple celebrated their silver (25th) wedding anniversary Dec. 18.
Ronnie works for KR Fishing of Rangely. Cindy is the human resource specialist at CNCC-Rangely.
They have two sons. Travis, 24, is employed by Blu H Well Service of Rangely. Nick, 18, is a RHS senior and will be wrestling at state this weekend. Both boys are Rangely natives and were born at Rangely District Hospital when it was still delivering babies.
The family enjoys fishing, camping and snowmobiling.
When asked what she likes most about living in Rangely, Cindy replied, “The small town atmosphere. It’s a wonderful place to raise children.”
