Ed Bird
January 18, 2007
Ed Bird passed away at home surrounded by his family after a courageous fight with different illnesses Jan. 18.
A long-time resident of Meeker, Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and sitting around with his family telling stories from the past as well as his famous tales of Bigfoot.
During the 1980s Ed began a fund raiser called, “Operation Orange” which raised $250,000 for the National Leukemia Foundation. This was a huge event, and he worked hand in hand with the vice president of Sunkist, Joe Stubbs.
Whatever Ed put his hand to, he did so with passion and determination.
Ed is survived by his wife Rita, brother Larry (Linda) Bird of Willows, Calif., four children: sons, Duane (Kathy) Bird of Oroville, Calif., Joe (Chris) Bird of Grand Junction, daughters Darcy (Levi) Roach of Meeker, Raechelle Anderson of Grants Pass, Ore., 14 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
His mother Ovil Bird, father Lois Bird, sister Virginia Lewis and grandsons James Duane Bird and Matthew Roach preceded Ed in death.
Services were held Saturday, Jan. 19 and a private graveside service will be held in the summer.
