Ernest (Ernie) E. Jones

Ernie Jones, of Meeker, passed away peacefully on Oct. 3, 2008 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 66.
He was born on July 1, 1942, in Aspen, Colo. to Ernest and Hattie (Meador) Jones.
Ernie was a lifelong Western Slope resident. He was graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1960.
He was formerly married to Sharon Bunch.
Following in his parent’s footsteps, he started his career with the Colorado Highway Department at the age of 16. Ernie retired in 1996 after 38 years of dedicated service.
He found his soul mate in Gloria (Moss) Jones, with whom he shares a family which includes three sons: Danny (Eve), Andy (Carrie), Joel (Cheri), one daughter Lyndee (Jones) Carman, one sister Margaret (Dean) Moore, and a brother Kenny (DeAnne) Kreie. Ernie was a devoted grandpa to Harlen, Annabele, Kaylynn, Victoria, Hunter, Meadow, Joey and Jakeob.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Zelma, a niece Pammie, and many beloved cousins, aunts and uncles.
Ernie didn’t know a stranger and it showed in his smile, hand shake, and hugs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, and spending time with family, many friends and devoted pets.
He started a pilot car business with his wife Gloria and together they enjoyed many ventures while traveling.
Ernie was a member of the Plateau Valley Masonic Lodge No. 101, and an adopted member of the Meeker Church.
Ernie requested no memorial services. He wanted to be remembered as he was in life.
