Gladys E. Cady

Gladys E. Cady died at the age of 104 on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Westward Heights Care Center in Lander, Wyo.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Services will be provided by Wind Dancer Funeral home of Fort Washakie.
Gladys Eleanor Marburger was born in Dustin, Neb., on Dec. 18, 1904, the daughter of George L. and Addie B. Marburger.
At the age of 11, she moved to Farmland, four miles west of Shawnee in Converse County, Wyo., to make their new home. Accompanying them were four other children, Roy, 9, Alice, 4, Althea, 2, and Fred who was 3 months old. She attended elementary schools in the area and was graduated from the eighth grade in Converse County.
In 1921, she went to Glenrock. Her family said she was so determined to get a high school education that she worked for her room and board while going to school. By April of 1922, she had all of her credits to graduate with a 95 percent grade average, which allowed her to be graduated cum laude.
She married Floyd A. Cady on July 12, 1922, and had three sons, Keith, Dean and Earl.
She and her husband moved to Colorado in 1945.
She kept books for the propane business they owned in Dinosaur, Colo., and was appointed justice of the peace.
After Mr. Cady’s death in 1976, she moved to Lander.
She was a resident of the Pioneer Home in Thermopolis, Wyo., was voted Wyoming Pioneer citizen of the year in 1986, and later was a resident of Canyon Hills Manor in Thermopolis and Westward Heights in Lander.
Mrs. Cady is survived by five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren; sisters Althea Logan of Seaside, Ore., and Gayle Armstrong of Lander.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd A. Cady, and sons Keith, Dean and Earl Cady.
