On Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, Jimmy Joseph Bruce of Meeker, Colo., went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ. He passed away from brain cancer at the Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction.
Mr. Bruce was born in Greeley, Colo., on Aug. 31, 1953.
Jimmy—“Joe”—as his family and friends knew him, moved to Meeker approximately nine years ago from Denver. He enjoyed a long career as a HVAC sheet metal fabricator in the Denver area, most recently teaching the trade at Red Rocks Community College.
Joe’s favorite activities included attending church at Grace Bible Church, studying the Bible, doing ministry and spending time with family. At one time, Joe was proficient at the trumpet and performed in various venues. He was known in Meeker as the guy always seen walking—he walked everywhere.
Joe is preceded in death by: his ex-wife, Kathy (Pattison) Bruce; and his father, Jimmy Lee Bruce. Survivors include: three adult children: Christopher Bruce most recently of Alabama, Heather Bruce of Colorado Springs and David Bruce of Denver; four grandchildren, Victoria, Chandler, Owen and Halo; Joe’s mother and stepfather, Bonnie and Bob Carden of Meeker; one younger sister and brother-in-law, Vicky and Jim Martinez of Rifle; a younger brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Kristie Bruce of Craig, step-siblings Glen Carden and Colleen Cowan; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services for Joe will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, at Meeker United Methodist Church in Meeker, when his pastor, Dr. J.D. Watson will conduct the service. Interment will be at Meeker Highland Cemetery.
