Special to the Herald Times

RANGELY | Friday, April 27, the Rangely track and field team joined a 15 team field at Craig, Colo., for the annual Clint Wells Invitational. With teams ranging in sizes from 1A to 5A, the Panthers fit right in with the best of the competition, finishing with several top 10 spots.

Patrick Scoggins was the lone champion for the Panthers, winning the 400-meter dash in 51.48 seconds. Scoggins also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a season best of 23.08 and fifth in the 100-meter dash. RaeLynn Norman led most of the way finishing second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13:41.61 after running a 1:11.27 in the 400. Marshall Webber cut more time on his 300-meter hurdles with a third place finish of 43.49, a new personal best, as well as finishing the 100-meter dash in 13.05. Austin Ficken’s strong throwing campaign continued with a third place finish in discus (137 feet, 3 inches) and fifth place finish in shot put (44-2.75). Makenze Cochrane threw the discus 104-10, earning her third as well as taking sixth in shot put with a throw of 32-7.5. Cochrane ran the 100 dash as well, finishing in 15.02. Breanna Davis also was a top 10 finisher, taking ninth in shot put throwing 31-5.75.

Miekka Peck had another strong showing in both throwing events, taking 12th in discus and 13th in shot put. Elena Forbes joined Cochrane and Peck in the discus ring, throwing 78-11 as well as running the 100 dash. Anna Forbes ran a strong 200 dash with a time of 35.76. Chloe Filfred circled the track six times, running an amazing 1,600-meter (7:03.38) and strong 800 (3:11.43).

Brennan Noyes stuck to sprinting, running the 100 dash and 200 dash. Younger brother Phillip Noyes ran the 400 dash in 1:07.78 along with competing in the long jump and high jump. Gabriel Polley ran next to Noyes in the 400, finishing just ahead in 1:05.71. Polley high jumped, long jumped, and ran the 200. Cameron Filfred threw both shot put and discus, throwing a 33-9.25 in shot put. Riley Boydstun also competed in both throwing rings with nice throws of 116-0 and 37-9 in the discus and shot put, respectively.

Saturday, April 28, the majority of the high school track and field team helped run the home middle school meet, however, Boydstun, Scoggins, and Webber made the trip to Montrose to compete again in a 23 team event. Despite a two-hour lightning delay in the middle of the day, the trio finished with some more top spots.

Boydstun just missed finals in the shot put with a throw of 37-3, before throwing his way into fifth place with a throw of 111-8 in the discus. Scoggins ran the 400 dash again, winning in 50.57, as well as finishing second in the 800 and 4 in the 3,200. Webber took to the hurdles again, running an 18.30 in the 110-meter high hurdles and placing fifth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.77, along with running the 200 dash.

The Panthers will be competing at the Colorado Western Slope League Championship at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction, Colo., Friday and Saturday.
