Rangely Animal Shelter sponsors workshop about zoonotic disease March 6 at CNCC

RANGELY — There will be a free zoonotic disease awareness workshop Friday, March 6 at CNCC’s Weiss Building from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. There will be a free lunch following.
The instructor will be Dr. Katie Steneroden. She has a Master’s degree in public health and is the infection control officer for the veterinary hospital at Colorado State University. Certification of class will be presented.
Zoonoses are diseases that are “shared between” humans and animals. “Shared between,” means sometimes the diseases are transmitted from animal to human and sometimes from human to the animal.
This is an important workshop for any employees of animal shelters, veterinary clinics, animal control officers, police officers, sheriff’s departments and any person who handles animals. The first part of this class will include the handling of any kind of animals including horses, livestock, reptiles and small mammals.
The second half will be about specific diseases, some pertaining to just dogs and cats (parvo, panleukopenia, etc.) and other diseases (rabies, salmonella, leptospirosis)which affect more than just dogs and cats.
