RANGELY | At Tuesday’s Rangely Town Council meeting the council listened to department updates and approved changes to the town ordinance that limits alcohol sale locations.
The council unanimously voted to reduce the liquor related distance restrictions relating to schools and campuses within the town. The change will allow businesses located on Main Street and within town limits to obtain a liquor license no matter their relative location to a school. Previously licenses could not be issued within 500 feet of a school which did prevent some Main Street businesses from being able to offer alcohol.
The council approved spending almost $9,000 on the Broadband Intranet and System Network project which will create an intranet at all of the town’s operating locations and update the phone systems.
Police Chief Wilczek discussed reducing the speed limit on Kennedy Drive from 40 mph to 25 mph and installing a stop sign at the La Mesa exit. Wilczek was concerned about how fast people tend to travel down the steep hill near the CNCC campus. Wilczek requested feedback from the council who were in favor of making the change to improve safety.
Don Reed with the utilities department said recoating on the settling ponds occurred this week. The ponds had to be recoated following a failure of the product during renovations. The repairs were covered under warranty.
Town Manager Peter Brixius told the council that the Chamber of Commerce would like the town to increase their participation in the Main Street program, something he said they are still exploring. Next week the town will have a work session with the county commissioners to discuss sharing building inspectors.
