RANGELY — On Friday night, Rangely was treated to a fun and unique theatre experience.
A cast of 58 Rangely students ranging from ages 5-15 performed a modern day rendition of Hansel and Gretel. The play was written by Jim Caron and produced by the Missoula Children’s Theatre, a not-for-profit group touring the world producing children’s productions.
Shawna Jean-Marie Smith and Danielle Papet from the Missoula Children’s Theatre Tour began casting on Nov. 17 and by Friday, Nov. 21 they had put together a wonderful production.
The group practiced every day after school until late into the evening. The dedication that it took to put the show together in a few short days was amazing.
This version of Hansel and Gretel came with some surprises and a happy ending. The Witch was a vegetarian!
The play was a musical and showcased how much talent runs through the Rangely schools. The part of the Wildwood Witch, played by Heather Turner, was captivating. Heather brought the Witch to life for the audience and her solo showed off her beautiful voice.
All proceeds from the sale of tickets help bring the Missoula Children’s Theatre back next year.
