RANGELY I The Lady Panthers have been a bit defensive lately.
And that’s a good thing.
Thanks in big part to its improving defense, Rangely won matches last week against Vail Mountain and Plateau Valley.
“With a lot of good defense, we came away with a win,” coach Jimmie Mergleman said of the match at Vail Mountain.
“This was a very important win for us,” Mergleman said. “We are seeing improvement on the defensive side of the ball, but we still have a lot of work that needs to be done.”
Next, the Lady Panthers had a home match against Plateau Valley, and again came away with a win.
“The girls continued improving on all aspects of the game,” Mergleman said. “We served better, our defense was a little better, and our offense, even though it was not clicking like we want it to, it was good enough to get us the win.”
The Lady Panthers are busy this week. They played Wednesday night at Altamont, Utah, before hosting Manila on Friday and then traveling to Soroco on Saturday for a league match.
There’s still a lot of matches yet to be played, but the Rangely coach likes the effort from her team.
“The girls are really trying hard to put everything together,” Mergleman said.
